Acura celebrates 35 years in Canada

Acura 35 ans

In celebration of its 35th anniversary in Canada today, the Acura brand announced that since its inception in 1987, close to 598,000 Acura luxury cars and SUVs have been sold in Canada. Acura was the first luxury brand from a Japanese automaker to manufacture and sell vehicles in Canada.

“We’re proud to celebrate 35 years of Acura in Canada. Our Canadian manufacturing and sales teams have played a strong role in the success of Acura in North America,” said James Marchand, Assistant Vice President, Acura Canada. “We look forward to exciting times ahead, as we bring a new generation of Precision Crafted Performance to Canadians, with an all-new Integra coming this spring and an all-new electric SUV, launching in 2024.”

Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario has built more than 800,000 Acura vehicles, including the first generation MDX and ZDX models, as well as the Canadian-exclusive EL and CSX sedans. Acura currently produces all North American Acura models in Ohio. The ILX and TLX sedans are produced at the Marysville Auto Plant and the RDX and MDX luxury SUVs are produced at the East Liberty Auto Plant.  The Acura NSX is built to order and is produced at the dedicated Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio, with a unique blend of human craftsmanship and advanced technology.  This world-class manufacturing facility employs ground-breaking techniques in weld, body construction, body painting, final assembly, and quality confirmation to ensure the highest levels of precision and craftsmanship. Further, the NSX’s 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged DOHC V-6 engine is hand assembled by master builders at the nearby Anna, Ohio engine plant.

Created to bring performance, elegant design, advanced technology, and higher levels of customer service to the luxury import market, Acura has grown from a small dealer network selling just two models in 1987 (Legend and Integra), to the current network of over 50 retailers selling five distinctive Acura vehicles in Canada. The line up currently includes two utility vehicles (MDX and RDX), two sedans (TLX and ILX) and one luxury supercar (NSX). Acura is jointly developing a large-sized EV model using GM’s Ultium battery and plans to introduce this SUV to the North American market in 2024.
